What is a Greeter?

Greeters all share a passion for their area and a desire to share it...

A new way to travel! A Greeter is a local volunteer, passionate about their area (city or village), who wants to share this passion with others (max. 6 people) during an off-the-beaten-path encounter. They will tell you their personal story, their favorite spots, anecdotes, and more.

Sometimes passionate about history, gastronomy, architecture, craftsmanship, nature, etc., Greeters all have in common a love for their territory and the desire to share it. A Greeter is not a professional guide but an "ambassador" of their area! As such, they do not have the same qualifications as a historian, tour guide, or naturalist. They are volunteers and do not receive any payment or tips. They do not host groups and never more than 6 people at a time (families, friends, etc.). The Greeter concept was born in New York in 1992 at the initiative of Lynn Brooks. It comes from the English term "to greet," meaning "to make contact with someone." Since then, the concept has spread worldwide and is supported by the international network: Global Greeter Network.
