Located in Havré, the Chapel of Our Lady Goodwill is a historic place of devotion, built in 1631 by the de Croy family. In Gothic style, it houses a rich architectural heritage and is an important place of pilgrimage, especially during the feast of August 15th, when locals honor the Virgin for her blessings and healings.
The Gothic Chapel of Our Lady Goodwill was built in 1631 by the de Croy family, lords of Havré, on the site of a lime tree where a miraculous Virgin was once venerated. This place has become a well-known pilgrimage site in the region.
The chapel is accessible via a lime tree-lined path and is open every day. When there are no services you can enter to admire the interior, which is filled with architectural treasures. Among the remarkable features are the stained glass windows, a Renaissance altar made of colored marbles, a 17th-century rood screen, and several marble funerary monuments.
From the outside, the chapel stands out with its natural slate roof and a cornice decorated with sculpted oak corbels representing human figures.
Every Sunday evening a traditional Mass according to the Roman Rite is celebrated in Latin, accompanied by Gregorian chants.
On August 15th Our Lady Goodwill is especially venerated during a feast dedicated to her blessings. In remembrance of the epidemics of the 17th century, the people of Havré carry the statue of Our Lady Goodwill in procession, thanking her for the healing she granted.
