Its prestigious collection of exotic-themed clocks (1795-1815) is one of the most significant in the world, featuring exceptional pieces such as the superb "Paul and Virginie" clock by bronzesmith Thomire, which is said to have been commissioned in 1802 by Bonaparte himself. The theme of the "noble savage," inspired by Defoe (Robinson Crusoe), Bernardin de St-Pierre (Paul and Virginie), and Chateaubriand (Atala), is magnificently showcased in this majestic collection, truly worth a visit.
The museum also houses a remarkable collection of porcelain from the finest Parisian and Brussels manufacturers, sumptuous silverware, exceptional French gilded bronzes, antique jewelry (including a stunning collection of cameos), and a plethora of rare and unique curiosities.
An exceptional museum of unparalleled refinement. Located in a listed late 19th-century building, the former National Bank of Belgium, the François Duesberg Museum is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in Belgium. An incredible marriage of the Art of Time and the Art of the Table!
As a privileged witness to the work of Baron and Baroness François Duesberg, the museum is the culmination of a private collection, lovingly refined over a lifetime of meticulous and passionate collecting—an impressive masterpiece of craftsmanship.
Thanks to the patronage of Mr. and Mrs. Elie François Duesberg, the city of Mons is fortunate to host an internationally renowned site dedicated to the Neo-Classical Art of the period 1775-1825 in its city center.
