Behind the Town Hall, the Mayor's Garden (Jardin du Mayeur), designed between 1930 and 1936, is a little haven of tree-lined peace right in the heart of the city.

It contains the Ropieur sculpture (Gober, 1937), which splashes passers-by, as well as lots of century-old trees including copper beeches, lime trees, paulownia, horse-chestnut trees and other attractive plants.

As you leave via the Rue d'Enghien, take the Passage Victor Hugo, which takes you on a scenic route to the Rue Margerite Bervoets... not far from the magnificent baroque belfry of Mons.

The Mayor's Garden is the perfect place to listen to the bells of the belfry, and you can often hear concerts there too.
