Starting off from the Main Square and its 21st century adaptations, discover the Town Hall and the Mayor’s Garden. Then walk down a few old streets and get close to the only baroque Belfry in Belgium and its park on the site where the castle of the Counts of Hainaut used to stand proudly. Then enter the Collegiate Church of Saint Waltrude (outside religious services and celebrations) and discover an incredible patrimony: stained-glass windows from the 16th century, the sculptures of Jacques Du Broeucq (architect and sculptor of the Renaissance), Saint Waltrude’s reliquaries, the architecture of the church… a 2-hour peek into the city’s history and evolution from its origins until today.
