Quévy

Composed of the villages of Asquillies, Aulnois, Blaregnies, Bougnies, Genly, Givry, Goegnies-Chaussée, Havay, Quévy-le-Grand, and Quévy-le-Petit, the entity of Quévy is a rural area.

Agriculture is still very present, and many very old farms are still scattered throughout the area. The Blaregnies woods are ideal for many walks, as well as the marked paths, supported by the Parc Naturel des Hauts-Pays, such as the Louis Piérard trail, the Malplaquet Battle paths, or the GR trail, which will allow you to discover Quévy’s landscapes in a different way. Most of the villages in the area have preserved traces of successive occupations, such as Frankish graves found in Asquillies, Roman and Frankish coins in Aulnois, or even a flint axe from the Stone Age, a Roman road, and coins from Domitian in Havay. The religious heritage, as well as the architectural heritage, are very present throughout the area. From the Saint-Martin Church to the Louis Piérard site, passing by the former Templar Mill, the Blaregnies Church, and the Gontreuil Castle, Quévy has many places to discover. The municipality offers festivals and events throughout the year

The Battle of Malplaquet: Relive the history with the Malbrough Circuit

Walk in the footsteps of a historic battle, where Europe almost changed forever. On September 11, 1709, 35,000 lives were lost in the chaos of one of Europe's bloodiest battles. Located in the heart of the Quévy plain, the Battle of Malplaquet was a turning point in the War of Spanish Succession. Imagine the outcry such an event would have caused today: a live tragedy on all our news channels. Yet in 1709, the battle took place without cameras, leaving behind a traumatized Europe.

Today, you can immerse yourself in this history through the Malbrough circuit, a marked trail that takes you through the peaceful landscapes where the armies of Marlborough and Villars clashed. Walk through the countryside and woods, between memorials and informative panels, to understand the scale of this battle and its impact on Europe's destiny. A journey through time, where each step brings you closer to the story of that tragic day.

La Trouille: A River That Winds with Charm

A Stream in the Heart of the Countryside

With its intriguing name, La Trouille is far from frightening! Originating in Erquelinnes, this river gently winds its way through the communes of Quévy, Frameries, and Mons before flowing into the Haine River at Jemappes. Along its path, it unveils enchanting landscapes of hedgerows, meadows, and ponds, while welcoming fishermen, walkers, and a variety of wildlife that enjoys its calm waters.
In Quévy, it reveals treasures like the Templars’ Mill in Givry, an ancient 12th-century relic, and the Théâtre de Verdure in Bougnies, a historical testament to a time when culture and nature harmonized. La Trouille thus reminds us that rivers are not just waterways—they also carry the history and life of those who live along their banks.

Memorial Treasure Hunts on Mobile

Application

"Un plan sur la comète"

"Un plan sur la comète" is an innovative project that originated in the municipality of Quévy, specifically in the village of Blaregnies. A memorial treasure hunt in the form of a mobile application allows you to dive back into local history!

The initiative of Mrs. Sylvie Dujardin, a teacher in Blaregnies, gave birth to a project highlighting acts of local resistance during World War II, particularly the story of Paul Herring, an American aviator who was hidden by resistance fighters after the crash of his plane. The students, who became bearers of memory through their research and the study of the comic book Les Enfants de la Résistance, collaborated with the Hauts-Pays Nature Park to create an interactive app.

This app, funded by a grant from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, offers a 5-km trail that transforms players into resistance fighters solving puzzles to help the aviator reach London. The game, titled A Plan on the Comet, is accessible through the Geologix app, providing a fun and educational experience about local heritage.
